tvOS 18 - Home Screen AppleTV Top Shelf Does Not Display "Up Next", Only "What To Watch"

Just upgraded to tvOS 18. In Settings > Apps > TV, Up Next Display is set to Still Frame and Home Screen > Top Shelf is set to Up Next.

Before upgrading (tvOS 17.6.1), this worked as intended and when on my TV Home Screen, when the TV app icon was highlighted, the Top Shelf would should all my Up Next Content in Still Frames.
After upgrading, when on the TV app icon, the Top Shelf just displays the "TV" logo.
IF I change Settings > Apps > TV > Home Screen > Top Shelf to What to Watch, the Home Screen appropriately displays that setting. IF I change it back to Up Next, the same unexpected behavior occurs.
Note that in the TV app itself, the Up Next row appears appropriately.

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps:

In Settings > User and Account, removed myself as the default user. Then added myself back.
Restarted the TV.
Unplugged the TV.
Changed the Up Next Display and Top Shelf settings back and forth
Completely erased/reset the TV from Settings > System > Reset > Reset and Update.
Reset my play history. Created a new one by starting to watch a few shows.

Nothing seems to fix this behavior.

Anyone encountered similar? Have a fix? Next stop is Apple Care.

Exactly the same problem this side. Suspect it will get fixed in 18.0.1.

This exact feature has broken before in updates and shows how far quality control on the tvOS is behind other Apple os releases.

This is now working! I restarted my box for another issue and Up next returned that’s running 18.0. I restarted my bedroom box running 18.1 developer and Up next returned there too.

Hopefully Apple have run a background fix 🤞🏻🤔

Restart your Apple TV and hopefully your back up and running. Let us know 😊

Same problem. Did a complete reset of the Apple TV (don’t recommend this as it didn’t like redownloading all the apps) and still had the same exact problem.

Called support and was told I was the 5th person who called about the same problem.

Just got off the phone with Apple Care (Sept. 18). They stated that it is a known issue and they are working on it. Unfortunately, because I completely reset it, they couldn't pull any diagnostics from it (which they wanted to do).

What’s up guys, mine got messed up as well with the new update. If you guys have time please google Apple TV feedback and fill out the small form and explain what’s going on, I just did, hopefully with enough people they will fix it asap. Have a good day

mine is working again too. It unplugged the Apple TV, waited 1 minute, then plugged it back in. Top shelf up next is now working again!!!

Sounds a fix complete.

However for UK BBC iPlayer the largest streaming service in the UK is still not working correctly in the Apple TV app appearing and disappearing from the Up next rail 🤨

I have reported this but at least 6 months on no fix 😟

Note: I’ve been beta testing tvOS 18 for months and Up NeXT (I noticed and left the NeXT, you got to love Apple’s autocorrects tribute to Steve 😀) in Top Shelf was always working. It suddenly stopped working on Tuesday even though I had installed the release candidate last week. It would appear that this is controlled over the air by Apple, so we shouldn’t need a software update to fix it, since it was working in the release candidate just fine. Apple, please turn it back on…

Never mind, I just saw the comment about unplugging the Apple TV for a minute and this returned the Up Next functionality to Top Shelf. I guess there really is a difference between restarting the Apple TV and unplugging it! 😀
