I need help transfering data from my old lax hard drive.

About 6 years ago my old mac computer broke and i had a bunch of storage on there. i got a new computer and tried searching up ways to get the data. i watched a video on taking the hard drive out so that’s what i did. i have an adapter for it. when i plug it in to my mac desktop it doesn’t pop up. it’s supposed to come up as macintosh but for some reason it doesn’t show up. when i put my ear to the hard drive i can hear it working. does anyone know what i can do?
