Launch the Mac App Store. Sign in with the Apple ID you used when you originally purchased Numbers after October 2013. Press cmd+0 (zero) to open the Purchases panel, and if Numbers is there with any indication that it can be installed, then click that. Do not Cancel any subsequent dialogs and this may result in your having the last compatible version of Numbers for Monterey installed.
In Mojave and later releases of macOS, one must enter ⌘+0 (zero) to get to the previous purchases panel in the Mac App Store. This changed from the option+Purchases tab in High Sierra and earlier.
See VikingOSX’s reply in this discussion in the Pages for Mac forum.
Doubtful the box set will install. It was 32 bit and no 32 bit apps will run now.
Look in your purchased apps in the app store. Hopefully, because you had iWork in the past, it will be there and you can download a compatible version. The regular link to the app only provides the latest version. It makes no sense to me why it is that way but that's how Apple has chosen to do things.
You might try LibreOffice or another of the open source Excel clones.
However, they're not as polished as Numbers.
Maybe time to consider a machine upgrade if it will only support up to macOS 12.7.6.

That's where I am stuck, too. I'd love to upgrade but it will cost me $6K+ minimum (probably a good bit more) to upgrade my two computers so they will run the latest version of Numbers and be compatible for a few more years of future versions. That's a lot of money just to run a consumer-level spreadsheet app.
As Badunit said in his earlier post, the versions of the iWork apps in the iWork '09 box set are 32-bit & will not install on any version of macOS newer than Mojave, macOS 10.14.x. The versions of the apps released in the Mac App Store in October 2013 were completely new software and, other than the names, had nothing to do with the previous versions. My reply did say "when you originally purchased Numbers after October 2013" which is the key.
I have not tried this but it is one possible method to get the post-2013 versions of the iWork apps. First, you need access to a computer running macOS Ventura or Sonoma (as of this date). Perhaps a friend will let you do this. Then you need to sign into the Mac App Store with your Apple ID & "purchase" the apps. Yes, they are free, but the process to acquire them & get them associated with your Apple ID is considered a purchase. You will then need to sign out of the Mac App Store on that Mac (unless it's yours) & delete the apps. Then sign into the Mac App Store on your older Mac & it *might* allow you to download them as I described in my previous reply.
I have not been able to test this method so it is just a theory.
Here is how someone else did it. It is very similar to what Peggy suggested but I think Peggy's method is better.
Success with loading old version of Numbe… - Apple Community
They logged out of the App Store on their computer, had someone else log in who had previously bought/downloaded Numbers, and that person downloaded the older version.
One disadvantage of this method is that the user does not "own" the app, it was "purchased" under another person's account. If something happens and it needs to be downloaded again, it will probably require that other person again.
Have you tried downloading from the Mac App Store?
It should offer you the version that is compatible with your macOS.

@SGIII Thanks for the reply.
I have the App Store, but I does not provide me with any other versions except for the most current. Which is not compatible with my macOS.
But I've figured out that I'm going to have to install it from the iWorks disc I bought more than a decade ago. I just have to go search for the box set.
The App Store does not give me a choice for any older versions at all. Apple definitely likes to force its customers to buy new hardware.
I dug around and found my Box Set with iWork 09, but it will not install. I think because I originally used Numbers from the box set there is no purchase history in the App Store for it, so possibility of seeing older versions. I believe I'm just SOL! Will have to find another program to replace Numbers, Any suggestions are welocomed.
Thank you.
Tested just now, and confirmed success. Thanks! I just tried Peggy's idea (I wish I would have stumbled upon this thread before trying my method!). I can confirm her method works, and you are correct...it is better than my version. FWIW, this is what I did:
On my MacBook, logged out of App Store account, but remained logged in on MacBook
On my sister's MacBook, she deleted the Numbers app and then logged out of her App Store account, but remained logged in on her MacBook
On my sister's MacBook, I logged into my App Store account.
I clicked "Get" on the Numbers app in the App Store, and then it successfully loaded.
I signed out of my App Store account on my sister's MacBook, and back into the account on my MacBook
When I clicked on my username at the bottom left corner on the App Store window, Numbers appeared in my purchase history, with the "download from cloud" icon. When I clicked that, it asked me if I wanted to download an older version...and voila!
One quirk is that I went through this same process 3 times. The first 2 times, it didn't work...but on the 3rd attempt, Numbers did appear in my purchase history. I'm not sure why that is...but...in the end...I now have Numbers running on my MacBook and the app is not tied to another person.
Thanks to Peggy for the idea, and thanks to Badunit for pointing me to this thread. Cheers everyone.
@Peggy
Thanks for the suggestion. Will be a bit of an undertaking, but worth the shot none the less. I'll update this thread if and when follow through on your suggestion.
