Wallet draining 30 to 60 % of battery consistently.

I've had this issue for years across multiple phones. I think it has to do with family apple card based on my many go-arounds with Apple support, Sr. Support and even the Apple Pay team.

  • I did all basic things, battery diagnostics turning off and on checking settings, checking my iOS version etc.
  • I restored my phone w/o a backup (twice) thinking that maybe there was some odd corrupt data in my backups but this didn't work either.
  • I removed all my non-apple cards thinking maybe there was a bad integration.
  • Then finally I removed apple card.. This worked. Battery dropped from 41% to about 1% by the next day and I am getting significantly better battery life

I'm on a 15 pro max now by the way.

I'm convinced it is either due to a bug with apple card family share (even though my wife does not have the issue with her version of the card.

The only nuance I can think of about my account is that I signed up for apple card when it was new. then later closed that account. Years later we signed up again to try the family card and since then i've had the issue. no idea if it's due to having closed a prior account but maybe there's some issue with the history of that behind the scenes on my apple card. Or it's the primary holder of the family shared apple card. I have a call to follow up this week with sr. support but i've done all possible trouble shooting on my side.

I'm escalating as much as I can. Bottom line, it should not be a solution to just remove the card and not use the product. This is a bug that should be resolved/aknowledged.

My wife has the card on her iphone 14 pro but that's all. When I remove apple card from my wallet, within about 24 hours the battery has dropped to about zero. before removing it it was 37% consumption over the last 24 hours (33 over last 10 days).

After removing card:

And again, this is restored from a fresh restore not using any backups. Super painful to have done twice now and no benefit.

A year ago or so there was another person on here with the same issue. I remember referring him to Apple Support, but don’t recall if a resolution to the issue was ever reported.

Does your iPhone show a lot of WiFi traffic? You would need a third party app to monitor it. But here for example is my current usage in basically real time.

The app shows sending and receiving data over WiFi. Basically I’m barely using it. Both my wife and I are co-owners and neither of our iPhones exhibit your specific issues.

OK, I have a 15 PM, purchased almost a year ago. My wife and I are co-owners and have the card setup in our Family Sharing account. I’m an early account holder as well. My wife became a co-owner several years later. The screenshot below is my battery usage by app. My Wallet is nowhere in sight.

You’re the second person I recall posting this and that post remained unresolved as I recall.

How many devices are connected to the card?

You have almost 11 hours of screen time. That’s a lot of usage. Something is trying to sync in the background. Have you tried deleting the app and downloading a new copy of the Wallet app? There’s some risk to that. Your cards will be removed and will all have to be added again.

Is your iCloud storage full? Is your family backing up their devices to iCloud?

Yeah those hours seem odd to me. It’s usually about 2.5 or 3 and I’m not sure it’s accurately representing this.

however if I delete the wallet app it had the same effect. I was noticeably getting better battery life. But as soon as I add Apple Card back it starts to crawl back to about 30-60% daily consumption.

that’s why this time I’ve kept the app and only removed Apple Card. So it seems isolated to something odd going on with the card syncing itself. I am getting back to senior support and maybe the Apple Pay team next week as a follow up now that the card has been removed for a while.

I’ve been experiencing the same issue since the 17.5.1 update. I’ve even moved from the iPhone 15 Pro Max to a new iPhone 16 Pro and am still experiencing the issue. I have stopped short of completely resetting and going through the tedious process of building my account and apps up from scratch. I’ve seen several posts like yours, but I’m surprised that Apple is not being more proactive about getting this remedied since it involves their payment card.
