Apple Classroom Problem Teacher Mac to Student mac laptop

Pupils join Apple classroom fine but come up with the highlighted image on the teacher laptop below. The lock screen has nothing to do with the pupils being on lock screen or having had the teacher lock their screen.

I tried restart, bluetooth on off, network swaps, leave and rejoin class, they are on different MACOSX so no consistency there either. Any thoughts?
