FaceTime recipient audio silent when speaking

Whenever I talk on FaceTime I cannot hear sound from the other side of the call. It’s very annoying and hard to hold a conversation because, even for them, we can’t hear each other. It doesn’t have to be talking, just sound. I do not believe there is a way to fix it but if there is it would be great. I hope Apple changes this for their new devices because it’s horrible. (I have an iPhone 12 Pro). And no, changing the mic mode in the control center won’t stop it from happening, but turning it onto voice isolation works the best.
