Creating lines with round corners and ends

Is it possible to create lines with round corners and ends? This image from Les Vogt1 sums it up nicely.

This question has been asked before, but let’s see if someone has come up with a workable solution in the meantime… Creating lines from shapes is not a viable solution; it’s cumbersome and doesn’t allow for creating an animation since it’s not a line drawing.

EDIT: silly thing is, when drawing with an Apple pencil in Keynote for iPad, all this works like a charm.

Apple could have implemented line caps and joins in Keynote but did not. Nor was it their goal to create a PowerPoint clone where one can format line segments with a round cap as one can do in PowerPoint v16.88.

If you want true rounded line shapes in Keynote, then use an appropriate external tool that provides this functionality in the form of exportable PNG artwork:

This is courtesy of Affinity Designer 2 v2.5.4. Though other free or fee external tools can do this too.

Thanks for your answer.

Of course, they could. This sounds like basic functionality to me; implementing it wouldn’t be considered ’cloning‘. Apple just chooses to keep their products more limited than necessary…

It’s even stranger: when you’re working on an iPad, you can easily draw the required lines with the Apple Pencil. It just doesn’t work on the Mac version.

PNG artwork won’t help, as it doesn’t allow for creating (line drawing) animations since it’s not a (vector) line drawing.

I’ve imported vector (SVG) artwork from Illustrator. When you break it apart to use in Keynote, the rounded line caps disappear.
