What happens when you try?

Can you post a screenshot of the whole screen, it could reveal why you aren't able to update.

Make sure you:

• Are updating to a version that your phone supports.

• Are using a WiFi connection (not a hotspot).

• You have an active cell signal (You need both WiFi and cellular service to perform the upgrade).

• Are not using a VPN connection.

• Have your battery charged at least 50%. Better yet, keep it plugged in during the update.

• Do not have power save mode turned on.

• Do not have a beta version installed.

• You have at least 10 gigs of storage available.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

• If you have an iPhone 5S or 6/6plus, the highest you can update to is 12.5.7

• If you have an iPhone 6S through 7, or SE 1st generation, you can update to 15.8.3

• If you have an iPhone 8 or X, you can update to 16.7.10

• If you have an iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), or XR through 16, you can update to 17.7.1 or 18.1

Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

I want to install Email on my phone

You already have an e-mail app on your phone. It is called Mail, and it came with the phone.

If you are talking about current versions of the Gmail app or the Microsoft Outlook app, those are incompatible with your iPhone. They require iOS 16 and 17 respectively – and the end of the line for your iPhone 7 is iOS 15. Instead of using them, connect your Google or Microsoft e-mail account to the Mail app on your iPhone.
