What’s the best way to buy an App for my child?

How do you guys buy Apps for child accounts and share them? I think it way too complicated.

What I (have to?) do at the moment:

buy the app von my ipad
let it download it / at least start the download
tap & hold the app -> Share
send it to my child via imessage
delete the app from my iPad again
(Sometime later): take my child’s iPad, follow the iMessage and download the app again
