Safari Can't Connect to iCloud Private Relay

I just experienced the same problem after a system update on my laptop. My iPad and iPhone were fine. I received the same message on my MacBook "Safari cannot connect to iCloud Relay". I tried shutting Safari off and on. Nothing happened. I googled the problem and there was a very convoluted suggestion. Then I shut the computer down, unplugged the jack, let it sit for ten minutes and rebooted. That solved the problem. Hope this helps.

It's not a local problem with your Mac. It's an Apple network problem. You can check Apple's Systems Status webpage to monitor the status of the problem. I can't remember another time when Apple has taken this long to resolve a network problem. I sure hope it gets fixed soon.

I'm getting "could not connect" notifications pretty regularly. And across my devices (MBP, iPad, iPhone), Private Relay is where performance goes to die. This has only been a problem for me over the past month. Switch off PR or switch to ExpressVPN, and everything's hunky-dory.

Leave PR on, and YouTube drops videos to legacy resolutions. Partying like it's 1999.

We love you, Apple. But this is a problem. A f'real problem.

(I'm in the Pacific Northwest, by the way. Wondering if this is a regional issue.)

works on one but not the other?

Is it now working for you? I still have the problem, but the link says Apple Private Relay is working... :(

Have you figured out the problem? I am getting same message. Internet is connected but “safari can’t connect to iCloud private relay”. What does this mean?
