Images not loading in mail

Resuscitating a similar post from February 2024 that didn't get a response. I've just started getting a small "?" icon where an image should be for every email that is downloaded. There is a message bar at top of each mail that says "Your network preferences prevent content from loading privately."

I haven't changed any settings for a while, and images inside of emails would load fine. Where should I look to change this?

I'm seeing this too. I do have "Protect Mail Activity" turned on. And I want to keep it on. I do not want to disable Apple's privacy protections.

This just started behaving this way today. Nothing changed since yesterday, as far as I know, but I'm not getting images in mail messages anymore, without explicitly loading them.

Have you run Disk Utility's Disk First Aid on all connected drives?

In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.

Run Disk First Aid on all items in the left panel, from top down.

If you have no POP accounts & they’re all IMAP accounts then in Mail’s Mailbox menu choose Rebuild.

If that doesn't cure it....

Are you running any VPN, Anti-Virus, or Cleaning apps?
