Help please! my old MacBook is able to run QuickTime player without issues, but my new MacBook with the M1 chip cannot. why is that? Old macbook is about 10 or more years old

What happens (in detail) when you try to run QuickTime Player on this newer model Mac?
What is supposed to happen, is that after QuickTine Player launches, it would show an ‘Open…’ dialog box, to let you start with a previously collected compatible document. If you want to use a different function, then click Cancel and choose something from the menu bar.
