How to open two Keynote files simultaneously without window disappearance?

Under Sonoma 14.5.

I would like to open 2 Keynote files at the same time to transfer a slide from one file to the new one. I have been unable to open in a new window without making the other keynote file disappear. Each Keynote file opens in slide view mode instead of working mode with sidebar showing slides. I have to escape to see the slides. And then the first window is gone completerly.
