How to upload additional titles to iMovie?

I believe that you can add third party titles to iMovie, but often they cause corruption in the project such that the project will not be able to be exported (shared).

The easiest way to obtain more freeform titles is to create the title with the Keynote app that is in the applications folder of your Mac. (Or if it is not there you can download it for free from the online app store.) After you create your title you can then import it into iMovie.

To create a title, open Keynote and create a new document. You will be presented with a screen of several project templates. Choose one, say the black background one. Delete the default text and add your own text via the text button at the top of the screen. You can choose color and size. Select the title that you created by clicking on it on the screen. Add animation to the title. There will be numerous options revealed when you click on the Animation button at the top right of the screen. Then click on your created title and, in the Format menu that appears on the right when you click on the Format button, select No Fill. Then export the title to your desktop as a movie, choosing the "Custom" setting that appears in the export box, and choosing Apple Pro Res 444. Export the title to a movie, and then import the exported title into iMovie and overlay it as a cutaway in your timeline.

The above describes the basic method. Keynote has a pretty good help menu that will describe the various procedures.
