Why Can’t Siri Read News App Articles?

Sometimes, especially during long pieces, I would like Siri to read an article in the News app. When I ask, she. produces an error message, which states “this page is not set up for me to read“.

I can sometimes work around this by using the two finger swipe down for read screen, but she stops at random points in the article and won’t go any further.

I have also been able to use the shortcut “Clip Article to Notes“ and then have her read the notes, but some of the news sites don’t allow this.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Have you tried enabling the Speak Screen function in Accesiblity?

Yes I have that feature enabled and use it quite often, but thank you for the suggestion. Siri will read part of the article (selection of text) but stops randomly.

Carol B tells me the publishers of the article have control of how the page is set up in Apple News - I had assumed Apple had control of that since it is their app, but that’s what happens when you make assumptions.

Having said that, I find it odd that I can have Siri read news articles in Safari… it’s a mystery, but I’ve learned if you wait long enough, Apple eventually works its magic.

When I ask Siri a question, while I’m driving, I expect Siri to give me the definition and answer to my question about something on the Internet, there should be no reason the software couldn’t made available just like Google, you ask Google anything and they will read it to you from the web/Wikipedia!!!

sincerely, frustrated customer!
