Purchasing books in iBooks. Changed?

Wen To purchase a book in iBooks earlier and when I went to pay it came up with my credit card in Apple Pay. Been buying books here for years and previously it just downloaded the book and debited the credit held in my Apple account. Went into settings and checked to see if any settings needed to be changed and nothing.

Chatted with someone in Apple support who couldn’t seem to resolve it although the chat was disconnected while we were working through it.

I’m using iPad Air 2024 13 inch. Only had it about a month and first purchase using it. So wondering if it’s to do with the iPad or have Apple changed their purchasing policy.
