Quick Time does not capture audio from external microphone while using Go Pro Webcam

I have a GoPro Hero 10 that I use for a webcam. When I select the video source as my GoPro, audio is not received when recording a video from any audio input. If I change the video input to the front facing camera, audio is available from any microphone I choose.

I have updated software and firmware for the Mac, the Go Pro Webcam extension, as well as the Go Pro device.

Any ideas? I'm new to Mac so perhaps I'm missing something silly.
