Using iMovie but Video Import Freezes

I am using iMovie on a Mac. I tried to add a video to the timeline from my computer, but it is stuck halfway through the import process. I have uploaded several videos to this timeline already, but this one has been stuck with the loading circle indicating halfway for several hours. It will not let me close out of iMovie with the import process is going, nor will it let me restart my computer.

Force quit iMovie (Apple Logo > Force Quit). Restart your computer. Open iMovie while holding down the Option

and Command keys and selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears. Then check your available internal disk space and make sure that you have at least 20 GB of free space so that iMovie can operate efficiently. Now see if your clip will import.

Also, try importing your clip into a newly created project and see if that works.

It might also be that there is some corruption in the middle of the clip that is causing the import to hang up.
