Where is OM-1 mk ii RAW file support?

It used to be Olympus, but now the company is just OM System. Their latest camera, the OM-1 mk ii, came out in February of 2024 but there is still no raw support in Mac OS Sonoma 14.5 or iOS 17.5.1. Does anyone know when the RAW file support will come?

I can't even browse files from an SD card without basic RAW support. Yes, I have Capture One, which now supports it, but that is only on one computer and I need to able to view my RAW files from the Mac Finder.

Why are apple slow supporting its users? I have iPad Pro with latest software and olympus Om-1 ii raw files don’t import. One of the most popular wildlife cameras on the market and apple software doesn't work. Shameful.

I have an OM-5 and an OM-1 (not Mark ii). Apple has not added raw support for the OM-5, yet (iOS 17.5.1) and neither Apple or OM Systems provide any timeline on when support will be added. The work around I use is to convert the OM-5 .ORF raw files using Adobe's DNG Converter app on my Macbook. The app is relatively easy to use. I set up two folders on my Macbook. One is named 'jpeg and dng.' The other is named 'OM5 raw.' After taking photos, I import the jpegs into the 'jpeg and dng' folder and the raw .ORF files into the 'OM5 raw' folder. Then I use the DNG Converter app to convert the raw files. You can set up DNG Converter so that it reads files from one folder and places the converted files into another folder. I have the app set up to put the converted files into the 'jpeg and dng' folder. After I complete converting the .ORF files, I then import the jpegs and dng raw files into Apple Photos.

Yes, it would be great if there was native raw support for the OM5 (and the OM1 mkii). The OM-5 came out two years ago, so I'm not holding my breath. Until then I just use DNG Converter.

No one outside of Apple knows what plans they have - if any - to add raw support for any particular model.

To be blunt, adding raw support does not seem to be a priority these days for Apple. So, some cameras are never supported, so partially supported and some fully so.

Options: Convert the raws to DNG with Adobe's free converter.

or

Use a third party app to manage these (and if you wish) all you photos. Apps like Adobe's Lightroom and Lightroom Classic, CaptureOne, DxO Photo Lab, Mylio and others have their own raw support and tend to be faster and more complete in the support they offer.

My Nikon produces jpg and RAW, and like jpsteiner2, I keep both on my drive. jpgs are fast to go though and reject the less exciting ones, and many of the best pictures are already well rendered as the jpgs. Some need extra help, and those are the ones for which I pre-edit the RAW files in NX-Studio, Nikon's software, which can produce high quality jpgs. I further edit those in Photos with things I like there.

Most do, yes, but there are Open Source options like Darktable. My answer was not intended to be a complete list of the possibilities, but I certainly should include the own brand ones. I'll amend that template accordingly.

FWIW I shoot Nikon too and use Lightroom Classic in an all-Raw workflow. I only use Jpeg when I export. But that's the good news: there is choice and there are options for every circumstance.

As I stated I have Capture One and do have OM 1 mk ii support for the raw files in that software. I was surprised by the lack of Mac or iOS native raw support because I have never owned a camera that wasn't supported natively by Apple. My first camera a Canon G12 was supported, my old Panasonic G7 was supported, my Olympus EM1 mk ii was supported and also my Olympus EM1 mk iii was supported. The fact that my last two Olympus cameras were supported with native raw file support from the files app to the photos app etc only added to the surprise that the latest model randomly isn't supported.

Perhaps in the new Mac OS Sequoia and iOS 18 will have it...I can only wait and hope. I will likely download the iOS public beta on my ipad next month and hopefully i will be pleasantly surprised.
