Unable to provide QuickTime with access to a microphone or speaker output

I recently purchased a Mac mini which I've connected to a Samsung Screen. When I try to make a screen recording using QuickTime 1) For some reason QT pops up and opens a box that I have to immediately close every time but the main concern is 2) It does not have access to a microphone or speaker output so does not record sound. How can I allow it access? I have never been asked to allow or deny access to the microphone by QT and Zoom has access so I know it's a possibility.
