I wanted to record a screen, but it wont show up when i click shift+command+5 it only shows capture, if i try with quicktime player it does shows and then i can click the record button, but there is no button or anything else to stop it, and after sometime if i quit the quicktime it ask "record will not be saved". there is no option i can find anywhere to stop record

when you launch a screen recording, a "stop" button appears on your menubar.
click it and the recording will stop.
also, you can have a look here to differentiate between a screen capture and a screen record.
