I am having trouble connecting my Apple TV (4) to a Toshiba regza tv. There are 3 hdmi ports and I have tried them all. My Apple TV works no trouble in my old LG screen.
I can see that when I select the hdmi port that the Apple TV is plugged it comes up as “living room” on the hdmi option on the screen, however it’s just a black screen. I can’t see anything on the menu that would help - does any one know what I might need to do?

Often overlooked, the Apple TV box may still be set to a resolution or dynamic range setting that the new TV may not support. To overcome this, try the remote button combination as suggested under Check video resolution, to cycle between video settings until you get to a valid setting, then go from there.
Same situation here, worked a couple of times (once every 30 times), in the end I just gave up on it.
Tried all TV and AppleTV settings, 10 cables, works with any other TV or monitor I have tried, spent more than 5 hours combined to troubleshoot.
The only good news is that once it worked it worked, but if you turn it off than you will never get it back… You could disable all the sleep functions and keep it going 0-24 hours, but that is crazy too.
One last thing that might still work is a HDMI to VGA converter than you connect it to the VGA port (supports 1080p at 60 hz) since the TV is 1080p it does not really matter if you use HDMi or VGA. I have not tried that, but other than that, just buy a new TV, its less frustrating :)
How long is the HDMI cable?
This worked one time. But now it’s black again and this cycle is no longer working, can’t understand why - I watched it for about an hour earlier
