Keynote Remote feature not working

iMac running Sonoma 14.4.1 & Keynote 14.0. iPhone 12 mini running iOS 17.3.1 & Keynote 14.0.

Both devices using the same WiFi network.

Keynote opened on iMac. Keynote Remote 'Enable' checked on iMac/Keynote/Settings/Remotes.

Keynote opened on iPhone. Remote icon pressed, then Continue pressed.

Blue dot on iPhone pulsing but iPhone never connects, times out.

iPhone reverts to "You can use your iPhone as a remote ..." screen.

Software is current on both devices.

Tried forgetting WiFi, then rejoining.

Tried cycling power on both devices.

Found the solution. The iPhone/iPad needs to have access to the Local Network (this is in addition to being on the same WiFi network). Allow access by going to Settings>Privacy&Security>Local Network on the iPhone/iPad. There should be a list of "Apps that have requested permission to find and communicate with devices on your local network". Use the slider to give Safari permission. Then on the Mac Keynote>Settings>Remotes check 'Enable' and then click 'Link' for your device (iPhone/iPad) and then confirm the 4-digit code. This step of granting permission to the iPhone/iPad) is essential and should be included in Apple's instructions to "Use Keynote Remote to control your Keynote presentation".
