Edited photos revert to their original state when imported into iMovie

iMovie 10.4, Photos 9.0 on 24" iMac M1

This issue has been logged for over 2 years now! The work round is to export the photos to the desktop and then import from there into iMovie. This works but is not a good solution as it doubles up my photo storage requirement. This didn't happen on my last computer running Catalan so has been introduced erroneously. I bought my Mac mainly for the use of iMovie but will consider in the future a non Apple product as I am now having to use Adobe Premier for my video editing. I prefer iMovie but not with all the bugs!!

Another weird one, I recently imported into iMovie videos and photos that were taken in Australia (11 hour time difference)from the desktop. The photos all imported ok but the videos annoyingly reverted to a UK time zone, ie 11 hours behind. That meant a lot of manual placement in the timeline - unacceptable for a product costing over £2000.

Exporting the photos to one's desktop and then importing into iMovie does work to preserve the edits, as you have found. Then you can delete the photos from your desktop to avoid the doubling of file space.

In the Photos app, if that's where you keep your photos, you can do an Image/Adjust Date and Time for a batch of selected photos to eliminate the 11 hour time difference. You might try it with a couple of photos to see if it solves your problem.

I’m not sure that there is anything to fix. Your camera took the photos in a different time zone than your Mac’s. That can be problematic. iMovie has a way of manually correcting it. What feature would you rather have? Then contact Apple via their feedback link. I don’t have the link handy or I would provide it. But you can Google it.
