After moving event from iMovie to FinalCutPro, can I delete the event in iMovie?

I have moved several events from one iMovie Library into a new FinalCutPro using the standard "File->Send Movie to Final Cut Pro" described in plenty of detail elsewhere.

After I have moved the events that I care about from the iMovie Library, may I delete those events from within iMovie to avoid confusion? And, may I delete the entire iMovieLibrary, if everything I need has been copied into FCP?

I ask because there seems to be some confusion elsewhere about whether "File->Send Movie to Final Cut Pro" was a copy to the new fcp bundle or a reference back to the original media. (As an aside, I suspect that iMovie/FCP uses file system support to not duplicate what could be 100s of GB of data [think - hard links])
