Photos from iPhone Taking Hours to Propagate to my MacBook

My setup works and has worked for years. However, every now and again I have to wait and wait HOURS for ONE photo to migrate from my iPhone to my MacBook. I'm using the application called "Photos" on both devices. iCloud syncs everything. Like, I've already said THIS WORKS and HAS WORKED for years - therefore I seriously doubt any settings need checking or altering.

Right now I'm waiting for four freakin' photos to eventually show up onto my MacBook. It has been six hours so far - but, I will likely have to wait until the morning to finally see those photos show up on my MacBook.

So, the basic question is this: Anyone else experiencing this? Any idea what causes Apple to take several hours to half a day to move a couple of photos?

Last night just before going to bed I plugged in my iPhone to let it charge. It wasn't until I plugged in my iPhone that the pictures finally made their way to my MacBook device.

The following morning I ran a test to see if photos would propagate from my iPhone to my MacBook in a reasonable amount of time - they did (immediately) - for the case of plugged in and unplugged.

It's possible the issue might be related to power and/or battery level. Although, my battery wasn't low - maybe 40% by the end of the day. So, I'm really not sure.

I've posted about this problem before - but, no one responds. That makes me believe I have a problem unique to my setup.

I am using an iPhone 7 Plus and a 2015 MacBook Pro. Maybe my tech is too old to function properly? I don't know.

Some intensive internet connection work is put off until a device is plugged in. Apple's recommendation is to plug the device in and wait. But even so, it may take awhile--it's background work, so if the devices are being used, it may take longer.

I also get impatient at times, and I want to see the pictures on a bigger screen. So I just airdrop the interesting ones so I can look at them on my Mac. I have them go to the Download folder and view them in Preview or something so I don't interfere with the work of Photos.
