sync iCloud to external hard drive
I have a WD Passport External Hard Drive that I want to sync to iCloud.
You cannot. Only the iCloud Drive folder, and Desktop and Documents if enabled, can sync to iCloud.

muguy: you answered in a very limited and unhelpful way. you imply that syncing can be effected thru "documents" and "desktop" without describing them further or offering any hint of how to do so.
System settings > Apple ID > icloud
you can enable iCloud Drive and optionally desktop and documents to sync. You cannot sync to an external drive.
