I can’t tell from the HP website whether there’s a firmware update available for that printer.
Various of the HP printers have a web administration interface, or a front panel update. If this one does, access it via Safari, and see if it can check for and then perform a firmware update.

Otherwise, you might have to use that HP Easy Admin tool, or some other HP app, to check the firmware.
I see some references that the last firmware updates for this printer were from ~2012. Given the age, it’s also possible some part of the printer has failed.
One thing I’ve seen mess up AirPrint printing are expired self-generated certificates, and that can mean performing a reset or network reset on the printer to generate a new self-signed certificate, and removing and re-adding the printer on any clients if needed. But that should not effect only photos.
But if y’all are printing photos fine to other printers, it’s probably something with this printer.
The last HP printer rolled out of here a while back, so I’m less than current.
