Outlook Mail does not allow me to reply immediately on my MacBook Pro

Since December I have a problem that when I want to respond to an email in my MS outlook account the mail turns dark. I need to close the main window and the mail becomes bright again which allows me to respond. This is bit of nuesnance, so I hope the community is able to provide me some tips.
