trying to upgrade from Big Sur ver.11.7.10 to Monterey
Office 21 requires vers. 12 (Monterey). When I try to get Monterey from app store I am informed that my Macbook Air is up to date?

Mine is a 2013 so it is totally updated. what do I do with Office 21 that requires MacOS 12?

The model year of a MacBook Air is available at Apple menu > About This Mac.
A mid 2013 and early 2014 MacBook Air can be upgraded to the latest version of Big Sur macOS 11 but no later.
An early 2015 and a 2017 MacBook Air can be upgraded to the latest version of Monterey macOS 12 but no later.

A 2018 or later MacBook Air can be upgraded to the current version of Sonoma macOS 14. See: How to upgrade to macOS Sonoma - Apple Support
you can use WPS at works just like Office 21

You may be able to install an older Office version but I am not familiar with that. Look into the Free LibreOffice, it handles MS Office files like Word & Excel, & Page Layout…
