How do I choose which order the Contacts app displays my many addresses?

Whenever I apply for a job or to rent an apartment they want my address history which I am trying to simply keep them in my contact card in my iPhone but in order for that to work I need to be able to rearrange them into a certain order. I can’t seem to find a way to do that without writing them down, deleting them, and then entering them back in the new order. Am I missing something? This is a very powerful device, I’m sure there’s a way, anyone?

iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 17

Minnetek ~ Did you get a satisfactory answer to your question? I came here looking for that same answer, and exactly same reason! I just discovered a solution that was posted recently and wanted to make sure you saw it. It’s listed as the most recent answer. The writer states to use copy & paste for each address.

I have another idea, although it’s tedious. Make several contacts for yourself : previous living addresses, rental/own, etc

Next contact: previous work addresses, manager names, etc

Next: personal/professional references, including their demographics

I rely on my phone more than anything else for information.

Just my thoughts. 😃

Good Luck!!

It seems to me that you are trying to use the Contacts app in a way for which it wasn't designed. Contacts is an app like Calendar which provides current personal information for yourself, not to mention all your other contacts. As a consequence an address entry is expected to be a current address which would require editing or deleting, but not reordering.

The only circumstance I use multiple addresses is a business which has several stores in different areas. By using the Custom label and entering a geographic name I can identify each location. By using one Contact card I can summon up the phone number or address of any one of these locations.

Would it be satisfactory for you to add your address history as a text entry in the notes field at the foot of your Contact, with a recording of the start/end dates and the address you had in that period, one line per location? This would also be easier to cut and paste into another app when required, or to cut and paste into a different order should this be necessary.

When I move or when a friend moves I like to keep the old addresses. In my country this is often necessary when dealing with the government... for example if one applies for a Nexus card from US govt the addresses of your past 10 years are required... including the post code. What better place to log this than on my vCard. I don't want the oldest address on top of the list!
