Using Headrush MX5 as an audio interface
I can get GarageBand to recognize Headrush MX5 as an interface, but MainStage will not.
iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13
So MainStage "sees" the Headrush MX5 but it is greyed out.

What happens if you click on "Allow Access..."?
There are choices to allow iMac and continuity iPhone mics but not mx5
What cabling have you between the MX5 and Mac?
As digital fate would have it, everything is working as it should after the morning boot up!
