How to stop Photos from creating automatic albums on iPhone?

My iPhone 13 mini Photos app has a bad habit of creating photo albums by itself. In searching for a way to stop this I came across a "solution" that said to turn off the Automatic Albums option in the iPhones settings for Photos. I can find no such option. Is there a way to stop this unwanted behavior?

I'm running iOS 17.2.1.

No, I was not talking about Memories. I did fix the problem, however. It was a 3rd party app called Image Size. I have used it for years, most often to reduce the size of photos prior to attaching them to emails and SMS messages in order to save bandwidth.

Somehow, mistakenly by my own hand or otherwise, a setting in that app to automatically save resized photos to albums became enabled. It saved resized photos to albums it created and named based on the pixel dimensions of the first photo of those dimensions.

For example, if I set the app to save an image at 1000 x 1500 pixels it would save the image into an album named "1000 x 1500". Subsequent photos saved at that resolution would be saved to that album. New albums were created for different resolutions.

So, problem solved. Thanks for your suggestions.

Photo Albums are never created automatically. Third-party apps may create albums if you have allowed the same from within the App. See the pic below

Probably you are referring to Memories. Use Memories in Photos on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Smartphones neither have the intelligence nor the hostility. Hence we need to look at our device settings and the way we synchronize our smartphones with Mac/PC/iCloud and share our valuable data with friends and family members.

If you feel an unauthorized person/app is remotely accessing, controlling, or monitoring your device, then that is possible only if you have done one or more of the following Don'ts...

  1. Don't hand over an iPhone to kids or a stranger without Enabling Guided Access
  2. Don't share Apple IDs
  3. Don't Jailbreak
  4. Don't share sensitive information about your device
  5. Don't give in to Phishing
  6. Don't plug in your device for charging your device in Airports, Public Transport, or public places, and trust the device. Beware of Juice Jacking. (Especially in India)
  7. Don't leave your iPhone unlocked and unattended in public places like offices, schools, malls, etc.

If one of the above is true then quickly change the Apple ID Password and Return iPhone settings to their defaults.
