HomePod does not show in Airplay list of devices

Though my iPhone connects to the HomePod - e.g. I restart the HomePod from my phone every day - the device does not show up in the Airplay device list. My MacBook and my AppleTV appear in the list without fail every time.

Bluetooth is on
Both devices are on the same wifi network
HomePod works fine via Siri
iPhone works fine; e.g. even my iPhone camera opens when I use the PhotoBooth app on my laptop

This problem occurs sporadicly. Maybe six times out of ten the HomePod does not show up. Other devices appear in the Airplay list consistently, ten out of ten times.

Given that Airplay is a function of Bluetooth, is it still possible the problem is with my router and/or settings there?

Any ideas appreciated.

Why is HomePod gen-2 is such a piece of garbage? Spent hours but still can not use it when you only have 5G, a single IOS device and the HomePod. Used the Home App (which has very low reviews) and grants access to everyone, but still can not see the HomePod in the Airplay list. I am going to Apple tomorrow and will return it shall there is no solution. ****, this is the biggest frustration I have with an Apple product ever! 😡
