Can speakers be replaced on MacBookPro?

My MacBookPro is almost ten years old! It works fine except the speaker suddenly went haywire. It is for personal use only. It is adequate for my needs. I am just curious if it is even possible to replace the speaker.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.7

Perfect!

Your location is closer to the "mothership" than most and you should have a good selection of service people and parts suppliers. Start here to see what is close:

I looked up the replacement steps and it involves quite a few tiny and fiddly parts that can be easily damaged. However, if you want to DIY, the online source I usually check first is powerbookmedic.com but they are in AL.

dvwarehouse,com is in Hollywood.

This one is in SACR: https://www.yogabearpc.com/apple-repair/. Never used them but then I live closer to the Snake River than the Sacramento River.

I think you have better options than most.

Welcome!

Please do "About this Mac..." from your Apple menu on the Macbook Pro in question and tell us what that shows for SUB-MODEL including SCREEN size. That affects speaker replacement and, with that info, we can help you with both feasibility and, if required, finding parts. Example of where the sub-model info is located can vary with macOS version):

Also advise if one or both speakers are affected. Some model require different parts for left- and right-side installation.

Apple won't work on a computer that old, so it going to be a do-it-yourself job or you'll need to find an independent repair facility that works on old Macs Also be aware that parts + profesional repalcemte could cost more than a 1-year of Mac notebooks is worth..

As for helping with finding old parts, PLEASE give us a rough idea of where in the world you are (these are international forums), so we don't refer you to a vendor that is 6000km away r does not shipp to your area.

Thanks!

Yes... I know I'll pay out of pocket. That's why I wondered if it is worth putting money in a device this old or even if it's possible to fix. Thankfully everything else is still working fine. I have no idea if it is one or both speakers.

I live in central California... between Sacramento and Modesto.
