Phone still rings put when on silent mode.

Phone still rings put when on silent mode. i have the iphone 12 pro and after the recent update to 17.1.2 my phone will still ring out when someone calls or if I receive a text message even if I have put it in silent mode. I’ve checked the obvious settings and there nothing that says I’m allowing any particular types of calls of notifications. For example, someone called me from a Spanish mobile number at 2am this morning on a number that I didn’t have stored in my phone or know at all! It rings out, waking me up, and then the caller rings off. This happens a lot. I also get text messages from mobile numbers I don’t know, in the middle of the night, and these come through with a loud notification.

I would really like to ensure that all sounds are off when my phone is on silent. Obviously if numbers I don’t know can still call me and it rings, I haven’t got them saved in my phone as an emergency contact or a number that I’ve allowed to still contact me.

Did you figure out the problem? Mine does the same thing. No contacts allowed, no apps allowed. My settings screen looks just like yours. I even tried last night to set the schedule, and still a text came through (ding) during the do not disturb scheduled time.

Hey Apple, thoughts here?

Orangenechee,I discovered this bug when helping a newbie set up their iPhone. Unfortunately they are now on iOS 17 so I can’t verify that it’s a bug only in that release. But your first screenshot showing Do-not-disturb people-none apps-none is all that’s necessary to stop calls. But it doesn’t.

All the suggestions here are totally irrelevant.

I (and my household) have the same problem (17.3.1 iPhone 13 Pro) Very worrying. Hope Apple fixes this soon.

I am having the SAME PROBLEM waking me up from sleep quite often! It is very annoying for someone who has sleep problems. I have tried all the suggestions in this thread and NOTHING works to stop it! I have an iPhone Pro Max 11 I wish Apple would look into this issue. My ringer switch is clean and I make sure I turn it on and off several times and that is in the off position when I go to sleep. I have all my settings so that nothing is to notify me from anyone in Sleep and Do Not Disturb focus and yet I get phone calls from people that I don’t have in my contacts. This is a very disturbing issue and I may dump the iPhone if it’s not fixed .

Please look at your settings...

Repeated Calls: If someone calls you twice within three minutes, the second call isn't silenced.

Please see the pic below which is self-explanatory

  • You have allowed certain notifications to bypass Do Not Disturb. By default, phone calls, text messages, and FaceTime calls will still ring or vibrate when Do Not Disturb is on. However, you can also allow other notifications to bypass Do Not Disturb by going to Settings > Focus> Do Not Disturb > Allow Notifications and selecting the apps and contacts that you want to be able to notify you even when Do Not Disturb is turned on.
  • You have enabled System Haptics. System Haptics provides haptic feedback for certain actions, such as when you touch and hold an app icon or scroll through a list. Even if Do Not Disturb is on, your iPhone will still vibrate for System Haptics if you have enabled it. To disable System Haptics, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and turn off System Haptics.

I’ve checked again on 17.4 and now I can switch calls off at night. I’m not sure if this is the software update or me being misled by the first settings screen where it clearly shows people none allowed. Contrary to this statement people are allowed - if they are in your favorites list depending on your > settings.

I realise it is unlikely to help but have you tried setting this to allowed people only?

Check if your mute switch is dirty (try to gently clean it using a strong flash light, a wooden toothpick, a soft brush and a bit of patience, then try switching it on / off many times).

If the issue persists, I suggest that you make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> https://locate.apple.com/choose-country-region . After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.

Giulio
