Apple Watch gets hot on charger

I’m afraid not idris. Look closely at the second photo the op shared. It tells him that during its last charge, charging was interrupted due to temperature, not due to optimized charging. The designers would not have designed a setting that cooks the watch in order to preserve battery life. In most cases, extreme heat, especially if coming from some malfunction of the battery itself, is very damaging to the lifespan of the battery. I am having this same issue with my series 9 now.

Im on here trying to figure out if I need to return this purchase and try a replacement, before I get stuck with a bad battery due to this constant overheating.

That’s a great idea. I’m thinking I should get something like that. I have it this old Apple Watch Series 6 that I got in the garage sale came with the charger. It was at 84 battery capacity and within a month it went from 84 to 74 service recommended and that is ridiculous, and I am not servicing the battery and I have to charge it usually around 1 o’clock during the day and 7 o’clock to 8:00 PM and the charger it came with came with like a cheap Apple Watch to stand and the cord that came with it and I can barely plug it into it fully. I have to always jiggle the wire to the USB port for it to charge sometimes but then when I charge the watch and I get a notification on my phone saying 100% Apple Watch so I go up to it and put it on and it’s hot. I always end up putting it in the freezer for like three minutes and then putting it on. Is the excessive heat a cause of the battery age

I’m thinking I need to upgrade but I don’t want to be paying extra $20 towards Verizon

That is probably more of an indication that your watch battery is about to die. What series watch? How old is it?

Yes, excessive heat, as you describe, is a bad thing. It could be issues with the charger. why aren’t you charging the Watch on an Apple charger? It’s also possible the battery is near or at End of LIfe (EOL).

It sounds like you have enabled optimized battery charging. On the Watch, go to Settings>Battery>Battery Health to see what you have it set to.

It sounds as if you're getting a notification that the device has reached 80% and is going to stop charging to allow the battery to cool. That doesn't mean the Watch is overheating. It means Optimized Battery Charging is doing what it's supposed to be doing.

If the Watch were overheating, you'd get a warning and then the watch would just shut down.

I suspect your watch is working exactly as designed. However, you can certainly contact Apple and arrange for them to run diagnostics.

As I explained above, that does not mean the watch is overheating. It's optimized battery charging at work. It is entirely normal.
