My Fitbit app appears to open but never goes to the front page so it is useless.
I also cannot run any youtube video that are imbedded in an article.
probably more issues I haven’t found yet.

Check for updates to those apps. Make sure you are using the very latest versions of the apps you mention, especially if you have automatic updating of apps disabled in Settings.
Finally, it is the app developer who is responsible to make sure their products work with iPadOS, not Apple.

Well as i said, the developers of those apps are responsible for keeping them working with Apple’s operating systems, including iPadOS 17.1.1.
Did you shut down and restart your iPad as advised? You don’t mention doing so.

usually I hold off on upgrades for a couple of weeks, this one slipped by me. Since it is a new number (17 not a 16) assuming this one was a biggy
