So before I had iOS 17 I was getting sms messages just find and remind you I had iOS 16 at that time with the iPhone 14 pro right as I downloaded iOS 17 I do not get sms messages anymore plus tried contacting Apple they were no help and before you say “contact your carrier” I already did they said it was fixed on their end and just to tell you I have AT&T so now I don’t know what to do so someone please help me.

I have the same issue. I have a data plan through Att. This only happens when on wifi calling. When I'm home i do not have cell service in my house so i use wifi calling and prior to ios17 i was able yo get sms text messages while on wifi calling. This issue started only after iOS17 was installed. As soon as i leave my house i will get all of my sms messages. The other reason i know this must be a software issue is that i can send sms messages without them failing while on wifi calling but none come in.
I have the same issue. I also have AT & T and data plan/SMS is enable with them. This only happened as of last week when updated to iOS17. I never had any issues receiving these messages before. Now I am not getting any text verification codes that I need to verify things like credit card use and other websites that require text codes to log in to my account. Again...this was not an issue before I updated the OS 4 days ago.
You need to have an SMS/MMS plan enabled by your carrier for the SIM/eSIM that you use on your device. Apple Inc does not provide SMS/MMS services.
