How to apply an effect only to the opaque area of a clip in FCPX?

For example, say that in FCP I have a solid generator and on top of that I design an alpha mask.

Then, I want to apply e.g. the border effect but I only want it to be applied to the border of the mask.

How to do that?

You can't use the Simple Border for that. It's Simple. Put another generator underneath the gradient you have, copy and paste the same Corner Mask to it, but make it slightly larger to create the border. You can combine the two into a a compound clip if you like to simplify the timeline.

Sure thing!

As you see there is a generator with a corner mask. Nothing special really.

Then, I applied a Simple Border effect.

However, the effect is not applied only to the opaque part but it is applied to the whole clip.

In this example, I wish the Simple Border to be applied only to the surrounding of the resulting shape.

Nevertheless, in general, I wish to understand how to apply effects only to masked parts.
