Moving app to folder creates a duplicate icon

I just got a new iPad pro M4 and the same thing happens to me. it creates duplicate app icon when i move the app to folder. Even the new model has the same problem. is it IOS problem?

Hi i had this problem too, but i came up with a tricky solution which is making the icons bigger (i don't know if this option available for all the ipadOS but in my ipad is here:

settings -> Home Screen & App Library -> Use Large App Icons

by turning on this option i easily put everything that i wanted into the folders

This happened to me (iPad Pro 11-inch 3rd gen running on 17.4.1), I restarted the iPad and the problem seemed to go away. I had this iPad for more than two years and the problem randomly started this morning, not sure why but hopefully it doesn't return.

This happened to me as well but I did find if you power down your iphone/ipad and I don’t mean by just pressing the power button I mean hold the power button and audio button down at the same time then slide the slider that says I think shut down or power off idk then turn it back on and it won’t duplicate you apps again

This happens for me as well running an iPad M4 1TB on iPadOS 17.5.1

Turning the iPad on/off resolved the issue for me.

Same problem, have tried all the basic solutions like restarting, deleting and reinstalling, still happening. Can’t find any pattern for which apps do this, as not all of them do. Never had this problem until most recent update. (April 2024)

Having this problem on my new IPad 10th generation, found that if you remove the apps from your Home Screen, go into the edit Home Screen mode and then into the App Library, you can drag the app directly into the folder so it doesn’t have the chance to copy.

Same issue - put the apps in the folder you want, let them duplicate - and then turn off the iPad for a minute and turn it back on. Kept my apps in the folder and removed the Home Screen duplicates

Same problem Apple team, this isn't a case of users not understanding how to arrange icons. It seems to occur only with my iPad Pro.

Error Observation:

Device: iPad Pro 4 w/ 17.1.2

Situation: i drag & drop an icon into the folder.

Result: iOS moves the icon into the folder AND places a duplicate icon on the home screen. selecting "remove app from home screen" removes the app from BOTH the home screen and the folder i just placed it into.

Expected Functionality:

Device: iPad 7 w/ 17.1.2

Situation: i drag & drop an icon into a folder.

Result: iOS moves the icon into the folder and REMOVES the icon from the home screen.

Bottom line: currently with the pro, it's not possible to remove an app from the home screen without also removing it from the folders. it's crazy. help.

Same problem! and if i delete the app in home it's remove also the app in the folder :(
