Connecting Macbook air to HP printer

Hello, I have a problem connecting my MacBook Air 13 to my HP Laser Jet CP1025 color printer. How do I do that?

Hi,

The HP LaserJet CP1025 does not appear to have had a printer driver for Mac since Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

Everything else would be entirely experimental. There is an HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update from Apple. The System Requirements say macOS 10.14 and Not compatible with macOS v12 and newer for the package, but there have been a few reports (about other printer models) indicating that the download may work with some newer operating system versions as well. You could use this download for an experiment, if you are aware of the risk that it may not work at all with a computer running macOS 14 Sonoma.

If so, to begin with, you may want to try the HP LaserJet CP1025 version 2.0.20120620 driver listed in Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support. If this does not work, it could perhaps be worth testing drivers for other HP printers in that list, such as the HP Color LaserJet 2600 (1.6.1) or the HP LaserJet 1022 (1.6.1). The following post indicates that the latter could work: Solution to Hp CP1025 driver issue - Apple Community.

It may be a good idea to reset the printing system between tests.

As always, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files before testing anything. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out.

Addendum

I assume that this is an HP LaserJet Pro CP1025 without a suffix. If so, it would normally be connected via USB. With an optional print server, an Ethernet connection to one of the LAN ports of a router would be possible.

By the way, an HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Color Printer was once listed as a supported AirPrint model (in a February 13, 2012 iOS: AirPrint 101 HT4356 article from Apple). That model could possibly work with some more modern Macs, even without an additional printer driver. It is not mentioned in the latest About AirPrint - Apple Support articles. though.
