Photo transfer from Canon 5D mark iv to iMac

My Canon 5D mark iv cable works to transfer to my windows laptop, but doesn't show up for my iMac and I can't get wifi transfer working either. What is the easiest way to transfer photos from the 5d mark iv to iMac desktop?

Thanks Keith, sadly the iMac doesn't recognise my Canon 5D mark iv - so when I connect with the cable (which works for my Windows Laptop) nothing comes up in the devices. Is there something else I'm missing do you think?

Thank you. The iMac doesn't have an SD card reader. It does seem pretty crazy that my Windows laptop is so much better doing both wifi, SD card and cable options with no problem at all. I bought iMac because I wanted better photo editing but it's not set up to work with a decent camera. Very disappointing. Thanks for your help though. That clarifies it for me.

I have never had any issues transferring photos from my Nikon DSLR, however my iMac is a 2020 when they still had room to install a SD card slot. Current 24" models are too narrow to accommodate one. In addition the photo software (Photos app) on the Mac FAR exceeds anything that Microsoft includes in MS Windows. You are just used to one work flow and simply need to learn a new one, not a big deal at all.

If you want to use Canon software then you need to check with Canon to see what they do and do not support. Personally with my Nikon, I simply remove the SD card, put it in the slot, launch the Photos app and import, edit, organize and customize my photos right in the app. Nothing to it, you just haven't learned that yet.

Thanks that was part of the problem, and discovering the best terms to search for. I found a great video that got me on the right track - basically had to find the right links (first video shows you how to do that as the EOS utility for 5D mark iv isn't listed on Canon site), then load and update quite a few bits of the puzzle. These links will help if anyone else has my problem. I have now paired the camera with my iMac desktop and can upload photos using EOS Utility, which links to my Digital Photo Professional 4 editing software.

So good to now be able to do this all by Wifi.
