Forgotten passcode

Having tried many likely suspects, I can’t recall the passcode to my iPhone 6. How can I retrieve it please?

I can’t recall the passcode to my iPhone 6.

To unlock your iPhone, follow the steps described in the Apple article:

(< iOS 15.2) -> If you forgot your iPhone passcode

If you forgot your iPhone passcode - Apple Support

If you don't have a computer and you can't borrow one, you need to go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.

connect it to a computer using the cable and read

If your Apple ID is locked or disabled - Apple Support

if you don't own a computer then you will have to use a computer from a friend/relative/public library or computer store

The Upgrade option eventually took me back to the passcode screen so I’ve gone back and chosen the Restore option which appears to be making progress but it’s struggling to back up from iCloud.
