iMac 143W power adapter not available from Apple via phone support or online
My iMac 24" 2021 M1 will not turn on. There is no local Apple Store where I live. The local computer shop did not have a similar power adapter so I went to a national retailer that has a store here and sells Apple products. They had the 143W power adapter in use on a display model. They kindly disconnected it and tested my iMac. Success! It turned on! Unfortunately, they did not have any adapters for sale and didn't offer to order one for me. Went online @ Apple.com - no luck. So I called Apple Support - after being shuffled between sales and technical support, I talked to a specialist. He would not sell me a replacement - apparently these 143W adapters are not available through Apple ( I assume they would get you a replacement if you brought in your machine to the Apple Store) but not able to obtain through Apple by phone or online. What's up with that? Not too happy with my support call either...the technician offered to sell me a cable without a power adapter insisting it would work for mine --- weird. Fortunately, he also suggested I look in the aftermarket for a replacement - and there they are --- in abundance all over the internet just not available through Apple. Disappointed official Apple replacement is unobtainable for the average non-warranty owner.
