Resume writing a draft email

I start writing an email. I don't have time to finish it. I store it in "Drafts" to be continued. I eventually get back to it, by opening "Drafts." There it is. What non-common sense, convoluted way/thing do I have to do to resume writing? And why can't it be something simple like, CLICKING ON IT WHERE I LEFT OFF?

No need to apologize; there are several different ways of customizing the Mail user interface and everything might not be as simple as it should be.

Mail's default appearance is shown in this screenshot from the Mail User Guide for Mac - Apple Support.

Those columns show the Mailbox list on the left, the message preview in the center, and the selected message content on the right.

In the above example, there is at least one message in Drafts. If you click Drafts, a list of those draft messages will appear in center column. Double-clicking the draft message (or choosing File > Open Message) opens it so that you can continue to edit that message, send it, save it in Drafts as edited, or close it again.

If your Mail app does not resemble the above screenshot, the Mail User Guide for Mac - Apple Support explains how to Use column layout in Mail on Mac which may explain the reason.

"Double-click the message preview in Drafts." When I return to "Drafts," does, or will it show somewhere on that screen the word "preview" or "preview in Drafts?" What should I look for on the screen, and where? Will it be hidden somewhere? Right click or left click?

My apologies, but there's a reason for my screen name here... Anyway, thank you for trying to help me.
