Apple TV Remote Volume Control

My apple TV suddenly does not allow my phone to control the volume on one of the apple TVs in my house. My wife's iphone IS able to still control the volume.

Things I've tried:

1) update apple tv

2) update iphone

3) remove and reconnect both phones as remotes

4) factory reset apple tv

5) reset wi-fi

6) turn "change with buttons" on in my iphone

7) factory reset television and turn the CEC audio control back on

8) unplug and replug all wires

9) swap audio optic wire and just use HDMI on my stereo

10) Hard reset iphone

**Note** during this entire process, my wife maintains the ability to control the volume using her iphone as a remote while mine is not able to control volume

I have a somewhat similar issue with volume control, but using the AppleTV remote. I didn't try controlling things with my iPhone at this point. When I updated to tvOS 17.1 (from 17.0), the problem started. It was like the AppleTV remote was constantly sending signals to the TV so that it blocked controlling the TV even from its own remote.

Similar to you, I did a factory reset and update on the AppleTV. This didn't work in that I could not control the TV volume or other features using either the AppleTV remote or the TV factory remote.

I verified it being the AppleTV remote by moving it to another room far away from my TV and the AppleTV. I could now control the TV with no issues for volume and other settings using the factory remote. I was also able to control things using the iPhone. The minute I brought the AppleTV remote into the room (without touching any buttons on it), the TV started acting up and would not allow anything to control the volume, etc.

I finally solved the issue for me by reseting the AppleTV remote.

After doing the reset, I could control the TV with its own remote. I was then able to go into AppleTV Settings > Remotes and Devices > Volume Control, and train it with the TV remote with no problems. Now I can control the TV with its own remote, the Apple TV remote, and my iPhone.

Maybe this might help you as well.

That's actually really interesting because I chose to use my phone because the remote is lost somewhere in the living room. Ill probably flip some couches to find it. I just learned that my wife's phone is only 17.03 or whatever the previous update is, while mine is 17.1

Seems like a big issue with this update, I'll have to find a way to make a bug report.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, this was really helpful.
