HMRC Basic Paye tools

I have updated my mac to Sonoma 14, but now get error messages when trying to do payroll for my business using HMRC Basic Paye Tools. Is anyone else having the same problem.

I saw somewhere online that ticking the box ' I wish to explain why this is late' stopped the programme crashing. It worked for me.

Poor effort by HMRC though.

Thank you for the feedback. Would you mind me asking how you went back to Ventura? I’ve tried but couldn’t do it. I’m not tech minded ! I’ve had to borrow my daughter’s MacBook as she hadn’t done the update.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hmrc just told me to buy windows and input all my payroll from April. Shocking advice!

Thanks for the advice. I am using HMRC basic PAYE tools with Mac OS Ventura and it was crashing every time I tried to submit an employee payment (after thw Jan 24 update).

I ticked the "explain why this is late" box (leave the reason blank), and the submission went through.

As you say, doesn't make HMRC software look good, does it?

Hi Shawn

I just managed to do the payroll (only 4 employees thank goodness) and I did it on the online version which crashed when I tried to submit all. I then downloaded the windows version which seemed to have managed to save all of the data and I submitted each one separately and that seemed to work. Good luck everyone with end of year payroll.

Hi Les,

I run on Sonoma 14.4.0 , Big Sur 11.7.10 (Native) and Mojave 10.14.6 via Parallels. After downloading the latest HMRC BRT Version 23.1.23352 I find it runs fine on all of the above, regrettably I don't run Monterey anywhere.

If it's not even opening then I think it may be the new "Browser" interface that playing up, try having Safari open with a blank page to see if that registers.

Otherwise can you have a Console window open to see if it reports any diagnostics there?

Sorry can't help more at the moment!

Regards,

Shawn

I have opened HMRC Basic tools today to send FPS and now I'm unable to open it. I receive a message from Apple advising it quit unexpectantly and to reopen, but it wont reopen......help!

I have Ventura...updated last week and since then Ive had nothing but issues. I cannot open finder and there are two "recents pages" hanging on the desktop".

After updating my Basic Tools software again this week (am on latest MacOS) and getting another sequence of crashes and errors in both Safari and Chrome... I've given up on it. Don't think HMRC are really up to the job of running and maintaining this software anymore... even as a web tool.

Have now moved to a free (for up to 3 users) online Payroll service. Managed to switch over in an hour. Job done.

This is beyond frustrating. I have successfully used PAYE tools for 12 years without incident. Now I get crashes every time I submit. (Apple Mac Pro - Sonoma 14.2). I am a one person company so payroll shouldn't be this difficult. Last month I received a threatening letter from HMRC because submission was late. That's because I couldn't send it. I also have a PC and downloaded Basic Paye Toosl on there but it won't let me submit anything because it says this person has already been paid. Will no doubt keep receiving the letters and fines.
