Is the camera in playback mode and turned on?

Does anything at all show up in System Information? Hold down Option, and from the Apple menu choose System Information... anything visible under Thunderbolt? Under Firewire?

Also, I could be wrong as it was a while ago, but I seem to remember some issues with Firewire in versions of Monterey. Maybe they were not fixed until Ventura. If you have a chance to try on this or other mac running an earlier or a later OS, it would help confirm or infirm the idea that it could be OS-related.

yes, i attached everything well, the camera on play/edit mode. on the screen of the camera theres a sign (DVin).
from the apple menu> system report > under firewire there is Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec
under Thunderbolt there is Thunderbolt bus 1 Thunderbolt to wirefire adapter,
unfortunately i havnt chance to try on earlier os :(

I think that (DVin) may be a clue to the problem. It's been a while since I used any tape cameras, but I believe there is an option somewhere in the camera's menus to switch between DVin and DVout - which is what you need in this case. Again, I could be wrong, but it's work exploring, I think.

i can reccord from my sony hi8 cc easily but it dosent recognize the dv one

Then you must be connecting the Hi8 camcorder the same way as your miniDV camcorder. If it works with the Hi8 but not the miniDV then the problem would appear to be with your miniDV camcorder, not the connection or your Mac.

Check the settings in your miniDV camcorder. Earlier you mentioned a DVin on the screen; that would indicate your camcorder is set for input, not output.

Hi8 camcorders are analog, and do not connect via {Firewire / iLink / IEEE 1394}. They would have analog outputs (RCA composite and/or S-Video).

There are Digital8 camcorders that use Hi8-style tapes, and store DV video on them. Those camcorders connect via {Firewire / iLink / IEEE 1394}. Some of them have the ability to play 8mm analog tapes and Hi8 analog tapes – and to digitize them, generating DV output on their Firewire outputs in real time.

I've just upgraded to Monterey 12.7.1 and now get "No FireWire ports were found" under Firewire in systems settings. It worked with High Sierra where I upgraded from. Any clues??

Do you have the Thunderbolt 3-Thunderbolt 2 adapter, and the Thunderbolt 2-Firewire adapter connected, and some Firewire device attached to your mac at this point?
