How do I turn off my airtag?

I'm new here and don't need my Airtag to continue sounding until I travel again. How do I turn it off?

iPhone 6, iOS 10

I would not expect the AirTag to be sounding. There may be some other issue there, depending on why it is.

Thank you. I put it in my luggage as I traveled last week. My purpose was to find my luggage if lost. Now, when I leave my house I get a ping that the luggage is in the house.

I won’t need the Airtag until I travel again so I’d like to find a way to keep it from pinging until I travel again. I’ll remove the battery tomorrow.
